Throwback Tunes for the Summer BBQ
What goes perfectly with summer barbeque? Well, of course, there’s the delicious sides, cocktails, and fire pits. But, if there’s one thing every BBQ bash needs, it’s throwback tunes. That’s right. Put away today’s pop hits and brush the dust off your old records. The comforting sound of The Beatles, Jethro Tull, and The Beach Boys coming through your speakers is sure to get those good vibes flowing. To help you create the perfect playlist for your summer BBQ, we’ve put together a few of our favorite summer hits.
♫ Summer of ’69 – Bryan Adams
Start from the top with a feel-good jam from the 80s that everyone can sing along to. ‘Summer of ’69’ is one of those classic songs you can’t help but shake your shoulders to. Between Bryan Adams telling you to unwind and the smoky BBQ flavors begging you to chill out, this ode to summer is the best way to get everyone relaxed and having fun.
♫ Sunny Afternoon – The Kinks
Summer BBQ’s are all about kicking back and soaking up the sun. What better way to capture the essence of the season than playing ‘Sunny Afternoon’ by The Kinks? This 1966 anthem comes from their record of the same name and exudes those easy breezy vibes. Davies sings, “And I love to live so pleasantly/ Live this life of luxury/ Lazing on a sunny afternoon/ in the summertime.”
♫ Here Comes the Sun – The Beatles
How can you not include this classic 60s song on your throwback tunes playlist? It won’t be long before everyone’s singing and jamming along to the chorus: “Heres comes the sun, do do do do.” Needless to say, there’s plenty more of The Beatles where that came from. Don’t forget to add their other popular hits, like Hey Jude and All My Loving.
♫ Down Under – Men at Work
Let it be known that ‘Down Under’ by Men at Work is one of the best summer songs of all time. So it’s only fitting to have it on your backyard BBQ playlist. However, instead of vegemite, you’ll be munching on honey jalapeno wings and mac and cheese. Make it even tastier with a bottle of Chad’s sauces! Try Chad’s Sweet & Tangy BBQ sauce, Governor’s Wing sauce, and Honey Jalapeno Everything sauce.
♫ Good Vibrations – The Beach Boys
This classic hit is one of The Beach Boys’ best and a summertime essential. After all, good vibrations, good food, and good company make the ultimate combination. When it comes on, turn up the volume so everyone can hear the song’s complex melodies.
♫ Aqualung – Jethro Tull
Treat your rock fan guests to a little Jethro Tull. ‘Aqualung’ is one of their most well-known songs, but you really can’t go wrong with any of them. The 70s was a wonderful era for BBQ-worthy music in general, so be sure to load up on your favorites.
Let the Good Times Roll
There are so many hits from the 60s, 70s, and 80s that just scream summer BBQ. Hopefully, this list can help get you started on that playlist. Remember, all you need to host an awesome party (or two) is some throwback tunes and Chad’s BBQ. We know good barbeque just like we know good music. Stop in for lunch or dinner at Chad’s this summer and enjoy a little bit of both. Check us out at 158 W Central Ave. in Edgewater, MD.
